Gigabyte’s WINDFORCE OC is clearly the best RTX 4070 SUPER on the market, offering a number of enhancements while maintaining the MSRP price point. It’s rare for a GPU priced at MSRP to include improvements to performance, but the WINDFORCE OC achieves this to great affect, and tops it off with a change to a triple-fan design for more efficient method of cooling.

The Best RTX 4070 SUPER GPUs

1. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Founders Edition

Original Review by Aled Wheeler: ASUS Dual RTX 4070 SUPER Review & Benchmarks

When searching for any NVIDIA graphics card, the Founders Edition is always a great place to start. With this GPU acting as the baseline design for other manufacturers to interpret, you always know what to expect from a Founders Edition card in terms of performance, pricing, and design.

That being said, the appearance of the RTX 4070 SUPER has been switched up from the original RTX 4000 series line-up. This card dons an all-black aesthetic, instead of the black and silver combination on other 40 series GPUs, to resemble its SUPER upgrade. Overall, the look of the Founders Edition is fairly tame compared to other SKUs, making it a better choice for stealthy or professional PC builds.

One of the biggest strengths to NVIDIA’s design is the practicality of the design, as the dual-fan layout provides a healthy balance between size and thermal regulation. Without the bells and whistles on other AIBs, the Founders Edition can take advantage of larger fans to keep temperatures down, allowing it to perform optimally.

In terms of pricing, Founders Edition cards are always available at MSRP, making them one of the cheapest options at all times. However, the limited stock can make these cards difficult to find after launch, especially at their original price point.

Original Review by Jay Harris: Gigabyte RTX 4070 SUPER WINDFORCE OC Review & Benchmarks

For those interested in an RTX 4070 SUPER graphics card with further performance enhancements, then Gigabyte’s RTX 4070 SUPER Windforce OC has you covered. This AIB enhances the original RTX 4070 SUPER across the board, including a boost to clock speeds to marginally improve gaming performance.

The most obvious change from NVIDIA’s design is the additional fan, which is designed to maximise airflow. As the name of this card would suggest, the triple-fan layout is powered by Gigabyte’s Windforce cooling technology, which uses an alternative spinning method to ensure the fans are pushing the air in the same direction.

Despite adding another fan into the design, the RTX 4070 SUPER Windforce OC remains a similar size to the other SKUs on the market, which means there is no need to worry about finding an appropriate PC case to house this GPU.

As for the performance, the increase of boost clock speeds up to 2.5GHz provides a small boost to gaming performance. The improvements will vary slightly depending on the game, but the enhancements made will result in a few additional frames per second in most titles.

3. ASUS Dual RTX 4070 SUPER

Original Review by Aled Wheeler: ASUS Dual RTX 4070 SUPER Review & Benchmarks

The ASUS Dual RTX 4070 SUPER is a strong alternative to the Founders Edition, offering the same specs and MSRP price point, but with a modified design tailored towards gaming. Whilst the core of this GPU is identical to NVIDIA’s Founders Edition, the changes to the design are not only for aesthetic purposes, as this AIB distinct a distinct cooling system that is meant to enhance the efficiency of the RTX 4070 SUPER.

Like the Founders Edition, the ASUS Dual RTX 4070 SUPER sticks to two fans, which allows the design to remain fairly compact. As a result, its easy to find a PC case that can accommodate the RTX 4070 SUPER, something that can’t be said for higher-end RTX 40 series cards. The main enhancement comes from the axial-tech fans, which are designed to increase downward pressure for greater heat dissipation. Additionally, the 0dB technology looks to reduce noise during lighter gaming sessions.

As this design is available at MSRP, the ASUS Dual is one of the cheaper RTX 4070 SUPER variants on the market, which makes it a great option for gamers that want a unique design without spend more than they need to. Whilst this card isn’t the most eccentric due to a lack of RGB lighting, the segmented and shroud and decals give the ASUS Dual a futuristic, industrial look that looks great in a gaming PC.

4. Palit Dual RTX 4070 SUPER

Original Review by Jay Harris: Palit RTX 4070 SUPER Dual Review & Benchmarks

Not to be mistaken with the ASUS card we tested beforehand, Palit’s Dual RTX 4070 SUPER is another variant that predominantly alters the original design, providing gamers with another option to consider for their build. In terms of appearance, this particular SKU is much closer to NVIDIA Founders Edition, mainly thanks to the all-black colour scheme.

However, the Palit Dual RTX 4070 SUPER expands the length of the card accommodate for two 0-dB Tech fans, which switches the fans off during less demanding workloads. Because of this, the GPU remains silent until it’s time to play some games, leading to less distractions or unnecessary stress on the fans.

Whilst the Palit Dual RTX 4070 SUPER doesn’t include any changes under the hood, the refreshed design is arguably better suited to gaming PCs than the Founders Edition. This is mainly due to the geometric engravings across the shroud and hint of RGB lighting.

COD Warzone

Settings: 1440p, DLSS: On/Off, Texture Resolution High, Texture Filter Anisotropic High, Level of Detail High

In COD Warzone, there were a number of slight differences between the FPS for each of the SKUs, with Gigabyte’s claiming the best results by a whisker. With DLSS 3.0 disabled, the Giagabyte Windforce OC was the only card that managed to surpass the Founders Edition model, with the Dual duo dropping narrowly behind. However, the ASUS Dual performed much better with DLSS on, averaging 199FPS for the highest result.

This sequel to the cult classic survival horror is the latest addition to our collection of benchmarking titles. In Alan Wake 2, the ASUS Dual came out on top overall, with Gigabyte’s Windforce OC not too far behind. Both cards averaged 97FPS with DLSS enabled, but the ASUS Dual gained the upper hand when DLSS was switched off. Again, the Palit Dual struggled to surpass the Founders Edition, narrowly being outperformed with DLSS enabled.

For a high-paced racing sim like F1 2022, high framerates can make all the difference between a win or a podium finish. The results in this title were quite surprising, as the Founders Edition model came out as the highest-performing card by the biggest margin yet. With DLSS 3.0 on, the Founders Edition managed 232FPS on average, which was 5 more than the second place Palit Dual. The lead dropped down to 2FPS with DLSS disabled, with the ASUS Dual picking up the runner-up spot with 189FPS compared to the Founders Editions 191FPS.

Finally, in Cyberpunk 2077, there was little to separate these cards. With DLSS 3.0 enabled, the Palit Dual and Founders Edition were tied with 88FPS on average, and the ASUS Dual and Gigabyte were neck and neck with 89FPS. However, when DLSS was switched off, the ASUS Dual and Palit Dual gained the advantage, with the ASUS Dual hitting the best result of 105FPS.
